TAG Farnborough Airport is committed to minimising environmental risk and continual improvement of environmental performance throughout company operations.

SGS_UKAS-greyImpacts to the environment that can occur as a result of the business are identified through an Environmental Management System (EMS) which is certified to the international Standard ISO 14001; the system is subject to independent audit and provides a framework for management of actual and potential impacts through policy development, procedural implementation, monitoring and review.

Air Quality and Odour

Monitoring of air quality is undertaken at thirteen designated locations on and in the vicinity of the Airport using passive and active nitrogen dioxide monitoring equipment. Air quality data is assessed in accordance with the Local Air Quality objectives and is reported to the local planning authority, Rushmoor Borough Council.

Aircraft Noise and Track

Aircraft operating at TAG Farnborough Airport are monitored using an integrated noise and track monitoring system (NTMS). The track of each aircraft movement is recorded and subjected to an audit process to ensure compliance with published procedures.

Noise is recorded using two fixed noise monitoring terminals (NMTs), located underneath the flight path at each end of the runway, and a portable NMT which can be deployed to appropriate locations.

Under the noise management program, jet aircraft that do not meet the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) ‘Chapter IV’ standard have been banned from using the airport. This noise standard is ICAO’s most stringent and quietest classification for jet aircraft. To ensure ‘Chapter IV’ compliance, TAG Farnborough Airport requires approved noise certificates before permission can be granted to take-off or land.

Airport noise is assessed through noise contour modelling using a specialised software package called the Integrated Noise Model (INM). In accordance with Airport planning obligations, aircraft noise modelling is undertaken at the end of the year to review noise contours for the past year and predict contours for the year ahead. An interim study is also undertaken at the mid-point of each year.

 

Complaints

TAG Farnborough Airport operates a dedicated reporting line and email address in order to manage and respond to any questions or concerns local residents or other interested parties may have. The line is operational 24 hours a day and enables users to record details of observations and experiences or submit specific questions. Users of this service should leave appropriate contact details and notify TAG of their permission to use the details they provide for onward reporting purposes.

Community Environment Project Funding

In accordance with the Section 106 Planning Agreement, a Community and Environmental levy is applied to all business aviation movements at TAG Farnborough Airport. The levy is increased for operations of the largest aircraft at the Airport (over Maximum Published Take Off Weight of 50 tonnes). On an annual basis all levy funds are presented to the local planning authority for allocation to community environmental enhancement projects within the vicinity of the Airport.

 

Energy Management and Carbon Footprint

TAG Farnborough Airport is committed to efficient use of energy within Airport operations and has undertaken a range of projects to monitor usage and lower the associated carbon dioxide emissions that result from the use of electricity, gas and other fuels at the Airport.

Airport Carbon Accreditation, launched by Airports Council International (ACI) Europe in June 2009, assesses and recognises efforts to manage and reduce carbon emissions from airport operations. The scheme consists of four accreditation levels – ‘Mapping’, ‘Reduction’, ‘Optimisation’ and ‘Neutrality’; each require increasing commitment towards comprehensive carbon management. TAG Farnborough Airport is currently accredited at the “Optimisation” level having demonstrated a continued reduction in carbon footprint through implementation of a structured carbon management plan.

Pollution Control

A number of significant ecological sites exist within TAG Farnborough Airport including Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC), Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the Cove Brook. Protection against potential pollution is provided through a network of separators, containment tanks and drainage valves with storage and secondary protection strictly controlled to ensure legal compliance throughout.

 

Waste

TAG Farnborough Airport works closely with waste service providers to ensure Airport waste is segregated, transported and disposed of in accordance with legislation. TAG Farnborough Airport operates in accordance with the waste hierarchy to reduce waste to landfill and utilise more sustainable waste management processes, such as recycling, waste to energy and anaerobic digestion.
