TAG Farnborough Airport hosts the Farnborough International Airshow
15th July 2012 by TAG Farnborough Airport
TAG Farnborough Airport welcomed this year’s biennial Farnborough International Airshow (FIA 2012), which brought an estimated 250,000 visitors and 1,400 exhibitors to Farnborough over seven days.
The airshow, which was organised by Farnborough International and held on TAG Farnborough Airport’s site, showcased the latest developments in aerospace, defence, space and security.
Highlights included flying displays from the Red Arrows, the Blades and the latest civil and military aircraft as well as the unveiling of the Virgin Galactic Space Ship 2, the world’s first commercial spacecraft. On the public weekend (14-15 July 2012) audiences were also treated to a Battle of Britain memorial flight and a patriotic flying display to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne.
“We are proud to host the world’s leading airshow,” said TAG Farnborough Airport CEO, Brandon O’Reilly. “As a key event in the global aerospace calendar, which attracts international media attention, it puts Farnborough on the map.”
An economic survey following the 2010 airshow, carried out by Farnborough International, found that the event made an estimated £17 million contribution to local economy, with similar figures expected for FIA 2012. Aviation International News (AIN) also estimates that $86 billion-worth of new commercial aircraft business was announced at this year’s airshow compared with $47 billion in 2010.
